CBT Welcomes New MBA Director
For Dr. Hamby stepping into the role of MBA Director at Northeastern State University isn’t just a career move; it’s a return home. As an NSU alum with a background in healthcare administration and a Doctor of Business Administration earned during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she brings a unique perspective shaped by both personal experience and professional resilience.
“That time in my life really shaped my passion for building programs that are flexible, relevant, and focused on real-world impact,” she shares. “Returning to NSU as faculty and now as MBA Director feels like coming full circle.”
What attracted her to the MBA Director position was the opportunity to build on the strong foundation already in place. “We have great students, committed faculty, and a program with real potential to grow,” she explains. “I was especially drawn to the chance to improve systems, strengthen advising, and align the curriculum with today’s workforce needs. As an alum, I care deeply about the program’s success and want to help shape its future in a meaningful way.”
Dr. Hamby brings both short-term focus and long-term vision to the role. In the immediate future, she’s prioritizing efforts to streamline advising and simplify course planning for students and faculty alike. “Making things easier and more transparent can have a big impact,” she notes. Longer term, her goals include growing enrollment strategically, expanding emphasis areas, and developing more employer-aligned partnerships. “Ultimately, I want our MBA program to be known for being accessible, career-focused, and student-centered without losing our regional roots.”
While her title may suggest top-down leadership, her approach is grounded in collaboration and support. “I don’t see it as just my leadership. It’s really a team effort. My role is to help create clarity, remove roadblocks for students, and support the great work already happening. Small, intentional changes can go a long way.”
That same mindset extends to her work with both students and faculty. “I try to be approachable, responsive, and solution-focused,” she says. “I believe in listening first, finding common ground, and being clear and consistent. Whether it’s a student or a colleague, I want people to know I’m here to help.”
To students both current and future, her message is simple but powerful. “I genuinely care about your success. I know graduate school can feel overwhelming, but I believe everything can be figured out with the right support. I’m here to make the process smoother and less stressful wherever I can.”
And her advice? “Ask questions early and often. Don’t try to do everything alone. The MBA is a big investment in your future, and the more you communicate and stay proactive, the more you’ll get out of it.”
As she takes on this new role, Dr. Hamby is guided by experience, fueled by purpose, and committed to making a difference, bringing energy, insight, and a deep sense of care to every step of the MBA journey at NSU.
