EHSM Students Attend ASSP Student Leadership Conference

Students from Northeastern State University’s Environmental, Health, and Safety Management (EHSM) program recently had the opportunity to attend the ASSP Region III Student Leadership Conference, led by Dr. Mai Anh Vu Tran. The conference offered a multi-faceted learning experience designed to support students preparing for careers in the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) field.

According to Dr. Vu Tran, one of the key takeaways from the event was the wide range of professional development opportunities available. Students participated in keynote sessions, attended specialized workshops, and connected with EHS professionals from Oklahoma, Texas, and other states. These networking experiences provided students with valuable insights, resources, and skills that will support their future EHS career development.

A highlight of the conference was the chance for EHSM students to meet each other in person—something significant for those who typically take courses online. Students also met NSU alumna Sarah Harwood, a former president of the Tulsa ASSP chapter. Harwood played an important role in securing sponsorships through Region III ASSP, which covered student registration costs and made this experience possible.

This year’s ASSP Student Leadership Conference not only strengthened students’ professional networks but also highlighted the value of hands-on involvement in the EHS community.
