NSU Ethics Bowl Team Competes In San Antonio
Students from NSU’s College of Business & Technology recently traveled to San Antonio, Texas, to compete in the Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl—an academic competition that challenges teams to analyze complex moral issues, think critically, and present solutions with clarity and professionalism.
The Ethics Bowl brings together universities from across the region to debate real-world ethical cases, ranging from business and technology to medicine, public policy, and global dilemmas. Students work collaboratively to research cases, craft arguments, and respond to on-the-spot questions from judges.
For many students, the experience is transformative. Gabriela Luna, a senior majoring in Management with a concentration in Human Resources, shared how deeply the Ethics Bowl shaped her personal and academic journey.
“I joined the Ethics Bowl as a personal challenge, a way to confront my fear of public speaking and push myself beyond my comfort zone. What I found was far more than I expected—not in a negative sense, but in a way that sparked real growth,” Luna said.
She explained that preparing for the competition strengthened her research skills, communication abilities, and teamwork.
“One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to look deeper into situations rather than settling for surface-level answers,” she added. “More often than not, things aren’t what they first appear to be, and digging into the root of an issue can completely change your perspective.”
Luna described the Ethics Bowl as one of the most impactful experiences of her college career, noting that the confidence and professional skills she gained are ones she will carry into her future.
“This experience reminded me that true growth comes from courage, connection, and stepping into the unknown,” she said. “It’s the kind of opportunity that will continue to hold value even decades from now.”
