NSTI Camp
NATIONAL SUMMER TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTE
The National Summer Transportation Institute at Northeastern State University is an
academic development camp for high school students to learn more about the U.S. Transportation
System.
Students will experience a wide variety of activities to enhance their knowledge and understanding the U.S. Transportation Systems. Planned activities include a field trip to the Tulsa Port of Catoosa, discussion of advancements in highway and vehicle safety, a field trip to a bridge construction project, hands-on laboratory covering flight dynamics and aviation, a four-hour discussion of driver safety, robotics and maker-space laboratory activities, and much more. Each day is packed with activities.
You may be tired at the end of the day, but you won’t be bored.
ADMISSIONS AND COST
Admission is competitive. Only 30 rising 9th-12th grade students from Northeastern Oklahoma will be granted admission. Admitted students will attend the camp at no charge. The basic costs of the camp are covered by a grant from the Federal Highway Administration. Only personal costs (e.g., toothpaste, candy/snacks, souvenirs) are the responsibility of camp participants.
COLLEGE AND CAREER PREPARATION
In addition to the focus on the transportation system, participants will engage in a variety of short workshops to better prepare them for life after high school. College preparation workshops will cover ACT Preparation, Time Management in College, Library Skills Development, and an exploration of career opportunities available in the U.S. transportation system. MEET NEW PEOPLE / MAKE NEW FRIENDS Participants will have the opportunity to work with peers who have similar interests and may develop lifelong friendships with students from several different high schools in Northeastern, Oklahoma. RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES The two overnight stays in Tahlequah will include recreational activities. These may include team competitions, ropes course, opportunity to attend an NSU play or musical, or any of a number of other indoor and outdoor fun activities.
The National Summer Transportation Institute is sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. The camp experience will include activities, tours, academics and two College Experience overnight stays on Northeastern State University’s Tahlequah campus.
